A word about pixum size formats

The various size formats from Pixum refer to the shortest side of the photo print. The length of the longer size will depend on the aspect ratio of your image. For example, if you choose the 4″ format and submit your photos at an aspect ratio of 2:3, your photo will be printed at 4″×6″.

There is limits on the size of the longer side of the photo print and they are as follows:

• The 3.5″ format can be from 3.5″×3.5″ to 3.5″×6.5″.
• The 4″ format can be from 4″×4″ to 4″×7″.
• The 4.5″ format can be from 4.5″×4.5″ to 4.5″×6.5″.

How do I get my free prints?

Simply choose the offer you want from the free digital photo prints list. The relevant site will open in a new window. Most of the links directly open the relevant registration page, others may require you to click the “register”, “sign-up” or “start” link. most require you to fill the registration form first which consists of just your name, email address and password setup and then upload your photos using their software before giving your delivery details at the checkout. Others require you to download their safe software to upload your images first before filling in the registration details along with your delivery details at the checkout. How long does it take to sign up and place my order?

The actual sign-up process will only take about about a minute and simply consists of filling in a short online form to register your email address. The time taken to place your order may vary a little between individuals but is mainly goverened by the amount of prints you are ordering and the upload speed of your internet connection. For most people with a broadband connection, the whole process of ordering the free prints offers should take between about 10 and 30 minutes.

No, you can place a smaller order if you want. Most of the photo processing companies will actually give ‘print credits’ for any unclaimed free prints that you can use to purchase prints at a later date. Note however that these free ‘print credits’ are usually only valid for a limited time (usually in the region of 30-60 days).

How do I use voucher codes?

Some photo printing providers require you to enter a voucher code to take advantage of a particular offer. These will be clearly displayed in bold red next to the particular offer. For virtually all of the photo providers, the voucher code needs to be entered at the shopping cart stage of your order and there will be a box on the order form which allows you to do this. The discounted price will be shown once you reach the checkout.

What digital image format should I use?

One or two of the photo printing companies accept bitmap (.bmp) and TIFF (.tif) image files. All of the companies accept JPEG (.jpg) and this is the recommended format to use. All digital cameras have the facility to save in this format (it is usually set to this by default). If you need to convert any images of different digital formats, you can use MS Paint included with windows.

What resolution do my digital images need to be?

This depends on the size of the print you require and may vary a little between digital photo printing providers. If the resolution of you digital image is too low your prints will lose detail and become blurry or blocky. See the table below as a guide to recommended resolutions:

Well, as you can see from the post title, Pixum UK’s popular 100 free prints offer has been extended again, until 31st October 2008. Great news!

Truprints 40 free prints voucher code has sadly ended. However this cloud does have a small silver lining because they have just released another voucher code which allows new customers to receive 30 free photos instead of the usual 20.

The free delivery and 2 for 1 classic A4 photobook offers from Photobox have also expired and I’m looking forward to see what they will have on offer for October. I will post the new offers as soon as they arrive, hopefully in the next couple of days.
